Steve Jobs made the official announcement today in San Francisco at the MacWorld Conference and Expo.

Apple today introduced iPhone, combining three products — a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, searching, and maps — into one small and lightweight handheld device.

iPhone is a revolutionary new mobile phone that allows you to make a call by simply pointing your finger at a name or number in your address book, a favorites list, or a call log. It also automatically syncs all your contacts from a PC, Mac, or Internet service. And it lets you select and listen to voicemail messages in whatever order you want — just like email.

  • Receiving and making a call

With iPhone, making a call is as simple as touching a name or number. In addition, you can easily construct a favorites list for your most frequently made calls, and quickly merge calls together to create conference calls.

  • Visual Voicemail

An industry first, Visual Voicemail allows you to go directly to any of your messages without listening to the prior messages. So you can quickly select the messages that are most important to you.

  • SMS

iPhone includes an SMS application with a predictive QWERTY soft keyboard that prevents and corrects mistakes, making it easier and more efficient to use than the small plastic keyboards on many smartphones.

iPhone features a 2-megapixel camera and a photo management application that goes far beyond anything on a phone today. Sync photos from your PC or Mac, and you’re ready to browse or email them with the flick of a finger.

Nike + iPod Equals Smooth Runnings

Two product powerhouses join up to bring runners a tiny tech training machine designed to help you achieve your personal best

If you’re among the scores of Americans who overindulged this holiday season (and even if you didn’t), there’s a good chance you’re kicking off the New Year with a vow to get in better shape. In the interest of helping readers stick to such resolutions, we’re starting a series of reviews of high-tech fitness gear, beginning with a look at the $29 Nike + iPod Sport Kit.

I have typically regarded running as an almost equipment-free exercise—in contrast to, say, gear-intensive sports such as biking or backpacking. A decent pair of shoes and a pair of sweats make up the basics, whether you’re Marion Jones or, like me, just trying to keep your post-college gut in check.

Appleinsider reports that according to their sources, Apple is planning on introducing three distinct iPod models over the next year (2007).

One model is reported to be the long-awaited full Video iPod, but Steve Jobs has “so far been unwilling to commit the marketing and other resources necessary to bring the device to market” until the market response to the iTunes Movie store and iTV can be better gauged.

The identity of the other two iPod models to be introduced over the next year are not known, however, one analyst recently introduced the possibility of a 16GB Flash-based Video iPod to be introduced in the 1st quarter of 2007.
